Who knew we would have such a good time and learn so much in a state we are so familiar with. On our way through Pennsylvania we decided to spend a few days in Gettysburg, PA. Marcus, Caroline and I had never experienced this land filled with so much of our history. It was a spectacular spring day. The sun warmed us as the sweet smells of the Autumn Olive (which we identified thanks to a neighbor of my moms) filled the air. We visited Cemetery Hill and completed some Junior Range activities there. We learned about the soldiers who had given their lives. We drove from beautiful field to beautiful field trying to imagine the scene of those three days in July that proved to be so bloody. Marcus and Caroline learned the names of the Generals commanding each army at Gettysburg and the outcomes of each days battles. We saw a diorama of the events. Marcus chose a book “You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Civil War Soldier” and Caroline chose a book about Clara Barton. We are also reading The Magic Tree House book “Civil War on Sunday.” After a visit with our families we are headed to Washington, DC next.
