It was a warm day in Charlottesville, VA when we visited Monticello. We saw the film in the visitors center on Thomas Jefferson before making our way up the hill to his home. Monticello which means ‘little mountain’ in Italian was changed by Jefferson over the years. We went on the hands on family tour. Which we highly recommend. We were able to sit on the floor with our wonderful guide and hear about what life was like when Jefferson was alive. His home has so many features and fixtures he had seen used in France. We learned about the lives of his grandchildren and the slaves that worked in the house and fields. After the tour we used a quill and ink to write, decoded a message with a cipher wheel, wrote with a polygragh which makes a copy of what you are writing and made a book about traveling. We visited the beautiful gardens. This was one of our favorite places that we have visited.
We had fun playing at the pool at Heavenly Acres Campground in Stanardsville, VA.
