Gold Canyon

One sunny day, most of them are sunny here in Arizona, we met the Poloskys (my good friend from Pittsburgh, Kelly’s parents) for a hike.  They guided us to the Hieroglyphic Trail in the Superstition Wilderness Area.  The trail begins at the Lost Gold Mine Trail.IMG_4911

We enjoyed the gradual climb up the first portion of the trail.  We saw many  stately Saguaro cacti.  If you turn around to look back you see back down to the valley. IMG_1960

As you near Hieroglyphic Spring, the trail begins to look like a dry creek bed with larger rocks.  This time of year you can see clear water in the pools of the rocks.IMG_1957

On the other side of the pools you can see petroglyphs made by the ancient Hohokam people.  You can see images of men and animals carved into the stone. IMG_1943

On our way up we also so a large rock with mortar holes in it where they may have ground their grain.IMG_1955

We enjoyed a nice picnic by the spring.  Marcus and Caroline had a great time climbing on the rocks by the water.  On our trek back down the mountain we enjoyed wonderful scenery and conversation.  IMG_4906

Marcus and Caroline had fun swimming in the Polosky’s pool! IMG_4914

Hi, I was down at my my moms today and I told her that you were in Arizona and having good weather. Wow she really perked up and said how much Grandma & Pappy use to love it there. She told me that Pappy use to go out by himself looking for that gold , I guess Grandma wouldgo now & then. She would worry about him getting lost, of course back then there was no cell phones and not many folks around. Moms long term memory is real good but short term is is real bad. It was nice to visit with her and talk about Arizona and the area where you folks are exploring. Anyway, thanks for replying, your doing a fantasic job on your web posts, Harris Family:)
