Muir Woods

IMG_0442On a very rainy soggy day we met Aunt Krysta and Uncle Bill to go to Muir Woods.

Uncle Bill drove us on steep curvy road and we arrived at our destination.

We thought even though it was raining, it would be a good day to visit (it wouldn’t be too crowded.)

Well were we wrong.

We had to park about a mile from the park on along the road.IMG_0452

All seven of us were about to get in using our National Park Pass.

We walked 2 miles in the Coast Redwood dominated, foggy drenched forest.IMG_3316

These ancient redwoods, including many over 600 years old form a habitat for plants and animals

who thrive in high moisture and low light. There is an average of 40 inches of rain a year here.IMG_3319The rain did stop after a while and we made the best of this rainy day!

We learned the difference between a redwood and a giant sequoia.

Redwoods grow in the coast region and can be 379 feet tall and 22 feet in diameter

while giant sequoia can only reach 311 feet tall, but can be 40 feet around.
