IMG_5998Our next stop was Yosemite.

We stayed at the Yosemite Lakes Thousand Trails about 30 miles from the park.

Our camper is too big to camp in the park.

There were even great views from the campground and the kids enjoyed playing by the creek.IMG_6056

There was no cell or phone service for us at all, except we could get internet in the lodge.

We met several other couples camping and enjoyed sharing stories with them.

We took the scenic drive to Yosemite. After entering the park, we stopped to take in the views of the falls.IMG_6015

We parked and rode our bikes to the visitor center.

We saw a film on the park and learned about how the Sierras were formed

and about the plants animals that call this place homeIMG_6053

We bought some books about John Muir.

We could imagine him walking in the Yosemite Valley.  Taking the same trails we did.IMG_6030

We took a short hike to the lower falls.

John Muir felt these sheer walls appeared like a temple lit from above.IMG_6052

The upper falls called to us so we began our ascent.

IMG_3474 This trail is one of Yosemite’s oldest (built 1873-1877.)  There were steep drop off on the way.

This is the view from Columbia Rock which is one mile and dozens of switchbacks from the valley floor.IMG_3464

It was very windy, but we kept going.

This is Upper Yosemite Falls, North America’s tallest waterfall (2,425 feet above the valley floor.)

We hiked to the base of the waterfall on this strenuous trail.IMG_6049While we rested we made friends with a stellar jay.

Then we made our way back down to the visitor center.

Maybe next time we hike to the top of the Upper Falls!
