We said goodbye to Seattle and headed towards our next destination, Glacier National Park in Montana. It was going to be a long drive so we decided to stop at Cablea’s in Post Falls, Idaho. We had never camped at a store before, but know lots of people that do. They had lots of truck and camper parking. Marc went to the front desk and asked about parking overnight. They said sure, there is fresh water and a dump station, help your self.
The next day we traveled on to Glacier. We camped right in the park. We were disappointed to learn that most of the Going to the Sun road was still closed for the winter. We had heard that this had the most scenic views. Sometimes things just don’t work out like you plan. We did spend some time going for a hike and Marcus and Caroline completed the Junior Ranger Program. They learned about the wildlife and vegetation in the area. The views we were able to get a glimpse of were beautiful. Marcus noticed a whole section of dead trees and asked the ranger about it. We found out there had been a fire here and the trees were beginning to reseed themselves. I hate to say our visit here was disappointing, but for us it was. We had high expectations of great views, but maybe with better planning on our part we can return someday and this destination will be redeemed. For now, its on to a new adventure.
Our friends, the Brewers had told us about a great hamburger place in the town of Drummond, Montana so of course we had to track it down. On our way to Helena we stopped for lunch. They have 101 different kinds of burgers. They give you the burger book when you arrive to help guide you decision. If you are ever in Drummond stop at Parker’s.
