On our first day of travel we went from Clermont, FL to Spanish Fort, AL. It was about 476 miles. We stopped at the Derailed Diner for dinner. We were so glad friends had told us about it. We had a good dinner and loved looking at all the cool displays. We were going to spend the night there, but since it was a pretty noisy and busy truck stop we decided to go another 17 miles to Spanish Fort to a Bass Pro.
The second day we drove 396 from Spanish Fort, AL to Beaumont, TX. We had stayed at Hidden Lake before and knew we could get an easy pull through for $21.50.
The third day we drove 278 miles from Beaumont, TX to San Antonio, TX. It was a bit of a shorter day, but the weather was bad and we wanted to spend the evening with our friends the Boyinks who were there. We had a pull through at Travelers World for about $46 a night ( we spent a week here in 2012.) It was a nice break from driving and riding to relax with friends.
The fourth day we drove 596 miles from San Antonio, TX to Las Crues, NM. That is a record for the miles traveled in one day for us! We spent the night at the Coachlight Hotel and RV (we had been there in January of 2013) and had another easy pull through for $18.65.
On our fifth and final day we drove 340 miles from Las Crues, NM to Casa Grande, AZ. We found a great park Casa Grande RV Resort. It was really hard to find a campground here most are age restricted (55+) and pretty busy this time of year. We really wanted to have a few days to clean the camper inside and out and get pack and ready to fly to Hawaii. This campground is great. We would definitely come back. It has two beautiful pools, free waffles on weekdays and is only $18 a day with Passport America.
We spent most of our trip on route 10 and it was just easier for us to visit campgrounds where we knew what to expect.
Our friends Steve and Yvonne were in the area, so we were thrilled when they stopped by for lunch. Steve even took Great White for a ride.
Now here we are all excited and packed. Ready to head to the Phoenix Airport tomorrow! We have a storage place and a kennel lined up in Tempe and are planning to take a taxi to the airport. Can’t wait to share the next part of our adventure with you….Happy Valentines Day!
