Volcanoes National Park

We hiked a four mile hike through a rain forest and rough lava rocks on the edge of the Kilauea Iki Crater. After the long hike we headed for a walk through a lava tube. Then at that Jaggar Museum on the edge of the Kilauea caldera we saw the smoke billow the out of the hole. Once we completed our Junior Ranger programs we headed for the ranger station.

The animals and plants are diverse here. For example the nettles grow without pickers on them. Mint doesn’t have its scent. They do not need the defenses because the do not have natural predictors here. I learned a lot about the different plants and animals here in Hawaii.

So interesting, Cali. I’d like to see those plants. You should know that Gordon has been playing Hawaiian music on his ukulele the whole time you’ve been gone!
