After leaving Clermont we were headed south. We have a time share in Key West and were scheduled to use it. The last couple of years we have traded it, but this year we decided we would use it. We have had the time share for over 10 years and it has worked out well for us. Especially being able to trade it to visit other places. We used our RPI membership to book a camp site on Fiesta Key about 70 miles from Key West. We spent a week there before traveling on to Key West. We really enjoyed this campground. It really doesn’t have a beach because of the sea wall, but it has other activities that our family really enjoys.
I would have to say one of the kids favorite activities was fishing. They only caught a few little fish, but they had a great time trying. We saw so many different kinds of sea life. We saw a nurse shark, a manatee, and turtle along with dozens of fish.
It was windy the first few days we were there, but after that the kayaking was beautiful.
We loved biking across a bridge that was over 2 miles long, even though my bike got a flat tire. We had a fabulous time at Fiesta Key. Most of the week we had the place to ourselves. On Friday night it seemed like hundreds of campers arrived for the holiday weekend. We were happy to hit the road early Saturday morning, headed for Key West. On the way we read Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea.
