Linoleum that was worn and had tears ran from the doorway through the living room/kitchen and into the kids bed room. Carpet which never would come clean covered the slide. Since we have not found a new camper to meet all of our needs we decided it would be a good idea to remedy these things. We found a great store in Maine called Mardens (thanks Bryon and Jen for the recommendation) that carries discontinued and closeout flooring at a great price. They had so many different products to choose from. We needed a thin flexible covering for the main area. We found commercial grade Allure that came in a modern green color. It was about $100 for amount we needed. We needed the carpet for the slide to have a finished edge so we decided to go with carpet squares also in a shade of green. They cost about$50.
We ripped out the linoleum first and cleaned the sub floor very well. It took Marc the better part of a day to install the floor which he did vertically. There was lots of cutting that he did with a utility knife. The flexible planks have tabs that stick to each other. The area seems larger now. We need to install the trim, but then it will be complete.
Taking up the carpet was very messy. We had to do some scraping and lots of staple removal. Marc cut the squares to fit in the slide and used double sided carpet take to secure them.
When he was all done it looked bigger and cleaner, but our couch just didn’t go in the space. Marc had modified the couch over a year ago and it was the one that originally came with the camper. We found a new reasonably price one that folds into a bed.
While I was taking pictures I thought I would show you the rest of the main area. One other recent purchase is a Berkey water filter. It is great knowing the water is safe to drink where ever we are.
