RV Homeschoolers made arrangement with a friend and local guide for us to tour Gloucester. We started at the Museum of History http://www.gloucesterva.info/museum which at one time had been a tavern or ordinary built in 1770. It contained artifacts and local history.
Next we stepped inside the Gloucester Court House. We saw a film about the area. Not only was this area involved in the Civil War, but as we had learned at Jamestown, this area was the home to the first permanent English settlement. The Battle of the Hook took place near Gloucester Point which was a turning point in the Revolutionary War. What a great place for three centuries of history lessons.
Our final stop was the birth place of Walter Reed. It was a small two room house. This was a great ending to a fun and educational field trip with our friends. Thanks so much to Miss Jenny for organizing this for us.
