We always make a stop when we go north or south to visit our friends in Grifton. Sams and Windy treated us to a delicious steak dinner when we arrived. On Sunday we all went to church together. After lunch Marcus and Cali spent time playing games with Windy while Marc, Sams and I went to look at some houses in the area that were for sale. We all watched Harry Potter that evening. The kids love their dogs, especially Dobbie.
We spent a fun day together. We tried Skylight Inn bbq http://skylightinnbbq.com/ for lunch and then headed to the North Carolina Estuarium in Washington, NC. What is an estuarium? The Estuarium describes North Carolina’s estuaries and how they have shaped the history and culture of this region. Estuaries form where rivers meet the sea, blending fresh and salt waters into thriving ecosystems that are essential nurseries for thousands of species of fish and shellfish — including over 90% of those we eat as seafood. North Carolina has more estuarine waters than any other state except Louisiana. The artistic representation of the water system of North Carolina that was in the lobby was the kids favorite. This place is a combination of art and science! There were lots of hands on displays. We learned about the animals, history and health of the Pamlico River. After we spent a couple hours inside we headed out to the river. We walked along the water and saw some really cool boats! For dinner we stopped at Hog Heaven http://www.hogheavenbarbecue.com/ for some more bbq.
We love spending time with Sams and Windy. Whether exploring their garden or playing games we just love to be with them! We are so glad there is a great full hook up campground for $10 a night right in their town!
