We decided to spend a week exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Friends and family had told us about the great biking, but it was the best biking we have encountered so far on our trip. The 45 miles of carriage paths were perfect!! The views were breathtaking and the fact that you didn’t have to worry about cars made us so happy! We saw so many beaver lodges. We even saw one with flowers growing on the top. Marcus and Caroline joked the beaver knew he was planting them. We loved riding through and over the many bridges on the carriage paths. Marcus and Caroline completed the Junior Ranger program. Caroline especially loved the touch tank at the College of the Atlantic Natural History Museum. We met a really nice family from Wisconsin there. We went on a whale watching cruise, but didn’t get to see any whales because of the fog. We did see a sun fish (not really what I expected), puffins, seals, dolphins and many different bird species. They let you go on the trip again if you don’t see a whale so we tried to schedule two more times, but they were both canceled due to weather. We have vouchers to go again the next time we visit. When we visit again we will definitely stay two weeks. There are so many things to see and we just didn’t get to it all. We did visit Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole (where the rock climbing was awesome), Sand Beach and Bar Harbor. While we were waiting for the bus (which is free and picked us up right at our campground) we ran into a family we know from Metuchen. What a small world. We loved the Bar Harbor Campground. The playground overlooking the ocean was a favorite. There were wild blueberries all over. We celebrated Cloe’s 13th birthday. We even shared the special cake dad made with our neighbors. Mom and dad bought and cooked lobster six out of the seven days we were here. It was so cheap and they said it was so good!! We are very sad to leave such a fun place, but we are off to visit some good friends in North Yarmouth. We are really looking forward to seeing them!
